For Fun: Amber the Dog

Website for dog information in case they get lost, connected to a QR code dog tag.

Client Name: Pet Owner, Chelsea Boccardo (self!)

Purpose: Pet information connected to dog tag

Project Case:

Year after year, move after move, Chelsea was constantly ordering new dog tags for her furry best friend, Amber. One day in her web design research, she stumbled upon a large company offering QR code dog tags that brought you to a simple profile page for your pet's family's information. She thought - I can do this better...

Website Goals and Objectives:

  • Link QR code on dog tag to a website that can be easily updated, removing the need to order new dog tags all of the time.

  • Provide stranger's reassurance on the dog's health, personality, and needs in the event they get lost.

Challenges and Solutions:

  • Dog websites are not very typical... How do you design one? Aside from a lot of cute pictures to choose from, Chelsea decided to have 4 main sections on the landing page. First would come some quick information with the dog's name, breed, age, and caregiver's information. Second, she added a quick and heartwarming story about adopting Amber and a few things she likes and dislikes. Most importantly, came the "Help!" section which included instructions on what to do if the dog is found by a stranger. Lastly, the photo gallery was loaded to provide confirmation that Amber was a sweet, good-natured dog, and what the owner looks like for retrieval if needed. The last step was to publish the site and then use the URL to create a QR code in Canva. This QR code was then loaded to a dog tag making site to be printed and hung around her neck.
